Small businesses have significantly contributed to economic growth and job creation in recent years. According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses created 64% of jobs in the past 15 years. In a recent article Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine also notes that nowadays, more and more students develop their business ideas and launch their own businesses while still in school. While some students might have a business idea in mind before graduation, others might be considering starting their own business down the road.
To help students better understand what a business startup involves, SIFE plans to hold Entrepreneurship: From the Couch to Corporation, a series of workshops which will introduce students and interested community members to the marketing, legal, management, and financial aspects of starting a business. SIFE will also host a networking reception during which students will have an opportunity to network with local business owners and guest speakers.
We intend to evaluate whether this event should continue annually.
Team members will be needed beginning next semester.
